A little on Salford Quays

Salford Quays is also known as Manchester’s waterfront destination.  The Quays has been developed on the old dockland of the Salford Docks.  The Salford Docks were the largest part of the Manchester Docks built at the end of the Manchester Ship Canal.  At their height the Manchester Docks were the third busiest port in the UK.  The Docks declined swiftly in the 1970s and closed in 1982.  Over the last three decades Salford Quays has been transformed beyond recognition.  The Quays now boasts an array of chic restaurants, The Lowry shopping Mall, The Lowry theatre, hotels, The Imperial War Museum and numerous offices and apartments.  It is now the home of Media City which houses the headquarters for the BBC.
